About the project

Perigus Energy is developing a new wind farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The proposed site is located to the east of the A70, on land southeast of Tarbrax and northeast of Carnwath, South Lanarkshire.

The current proposal includes up to 16 wind turbines, each with a maximum tip height of 200 metres. Together, they would provide an installed capacity of approximately 75-100 megawatts (MW) – enough to generate renewable electricity for 95,000 UK homes each year.1

The project aims to supply green and sustainable electricity to the national grid, directly supporting the Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan which outlines a target of 27-29 GW of wind power by 2030.2

Environmental studies have started at the site. These studies, along with feedback from the local community and other stakeholders, will be used to shape the design of the project.

Latest updates

The Scoping Report and associated documents submitted to Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU) with the case reference:  ECU00006421. The submitted information can be accessed here. Please note that the Scoping Report is not an application for planning permission and there is no formal opportunity for the public to comment at this stage. Members of the public will be able to comment on the application once a Section 36 application is submitted to the Scottish Government’s ECU.

Local community

Perigus Energy is dedicated to being an active partner in the communities where we develop, build, and operate our green energy assets such as onshore wind farms. In Scotland, we offer a community benefit programme to support communities close to our wind farm sites and are keen to back local community projects wherever we can.

Community Benefit Fund

Every year over the operational lifetime of Seat Hill Wind Farm, Perigus Energy will contribute £5,000 per megawatt of installed wind energy to a community benefit fund. We will consult the people who live and work near our projects to ensure that the community benefit funds support those initiatives that are of most value to local people.

Community ownership

In some instances, Perigus Energy offers local communities surrounding our onshore wind projects the opportunity to own part of the project. By owning a part of Scotland’s green energy supply, local people have the chance to benefit directly over the long-term benefits onshore wind energy brings. If the community would like to explore community ownership options, please contact us.

Footnotes

1 Based on the latest Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and Digest of UK Energy Statistics (DUKES) figures, which provide an average UK annual household electricity consumption of 3,323 kWh. The calculation uses a 36% capacity factor for modern onshore wind farms (>5 MW), consistent with DESNZ CfD Methodology net load factor assumptions for delivery years 2027–2031.
